Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with representatives of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through Chemonics International, which is implementing a recycling project in Jordan.

In a statement released on Saturday, the JBA said the project stimulates Jordan's private sector and companies to use recycling and network JBA's members with companies operating in the recycling industry.

The project, which is implemented under joint supervision of Ministry of Environment and Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), seeks to increase commercial competitiveness by strengthening market relations and improving the business-friendly environment, by transforming the recycling services network into a competitive sector that contributes to sustainable management of solid waste in the Kingdom.

JBA's member Michel Nazzal, who signed the MoU, affirmed the JBA's support for all efforts to conserve the environment through this important project for waste recycling, which represents multiple sectors that would contribute "significantly" to support these endeavors, represented by the hotel, heavy and light industries, and medical care sectors.

Nazzal also pointed to the importance of the project's action mechanism, based on achieving mutual trade interets, which aims to serve companies and businesses operating in the recycling services sector, which increases incentive for all partners to push success of this national venture.

Meanwhile, project manager, Maher Hamdan, said the enterprise aims to protect environment, public health and preserve natural resources through an integrated waste management system, aimed to increase recycling operations and separate recyclable organic materials, in addition to stimulating the recycling process and focusing on raising awareness at the society level.

The project, Hamdan added, aims to support and stimulate waste recycling and re-usage in the business sector, adding that it began to pay off for a number of successful projects for major retail companies.

The agreement also aims to raise awareness among Jordan's business sector to take part in the project, and for the citizen alike, by holding workshops with JBA's members, Hamdan pointed out.
